Settings → Export to ePUB

This option can be used if you want to create an ePUB directly out of Word.

  • Automatic HTML Conversion
This option will convert the current document to HTML first without the need of manually executing that procedure first before generating the ePUB.
  • Add fonts from Word Styles
This option only works if the stylesheet will be generated (option 2 below). It will add the fonts to the ePUB.
  • Stylesheet
    There are three choices:
    1. standard (basic) stylesheet
The content of the standard (basic) stylesheet is in the Appendix
    2. Generate stylesheet based on the existing Word styles
It will take the following things into account:
      • margins
      • font size
      • formatting
      • indents
      • alignment
    3. Own Stylesheet
If a existing stylesheet is entered/selected, that stylesheet will be used in the ePUB.
  • Split book
Splits the document upon exporting according to the selected option. Either a marker can be set and used (button for insertion on main Ribbon), the Sigil splitmarker can be inserted automatic before each header (no automatic splitting!), split upon used header styles (choose the styles where to split) or no splitting at all.
  • Endnotes position
The endnotes can be placed in a separate file at the end of the book or at the end of each chapter in which they are referenced. It is possible to export the notes in a HTML table for ePUB2. In that case a table with two columns will be made. The first column will contain the actual number and the second column the actual note.
  • Use Doctype
Doctypes enable the usage of named entities. This can cause issues for some systems/editors, especially when it concerns non-breakable spaces. Here a choice can be made to use DOCTYPE (like Sigil does) or to create the ePUB without the DOCTYPE (like the Calibre Editor does).
  • Prefill metadata
If the metadata of the Word document has been filled, the author and title can be prefilled in the ePUB screen. Also the language can be preset.
  • Convert Scenebreak tag
Converts the scenebreak tags back to an empty paragraph upon exporting to ePUB.
  • Filename suggestion
During the ePUB creation the filename can be prefilled with this option. There are 6 possibilties. The default proposal is author - title.
    • author - title
    • author (file-as value) - title
    • title - author
    • title - author (file-as value)
    • title
    • none
  • Preferred output directory
A standard output directory for the ePUB’s can be defined.
  • ePUB3
Here you can set the default output type to ePUB3 (can be overruled at the generate ePUB screen) and choose if you want equations as MathML instead of SVG/PNG
  • Open ePUB
After creation the ePUB can be opened with either the associated program for the ePUB extension or a program of choice.
  • Open ePUB after creation
This option will open the ePUB after the creation.
  • Close Word after creation
With this option Word can be closed automatically after the ePUB has been created.
